Appellation named after the commune of the same name (Engl.:„Savigny close to Beaune“), in the Côte de Beaune (Côte d´Or) in Burgunfy in France. The vineyard area totals around 35o hectares. An etching dated 1703 says about the wines that they are „nourishing, theological, and drive away disease“. There are more than 20 Premiers Crus with a total vineyard area of 212 hectares, the most important of these are La Dominode, Aux Guettes, Les Lavières, Les Marconetts, Les Narbantons, Les Peuillets, Les Rouvrettes and Aux Vergelesses. These are marketed under the AC Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru. Long-lived red wines made from Pinot Noir (with small portions of Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault permitted) make up 90% of the production. As an alternative, the AC Savigny-Côte de Beaune may also be used. The white wines are made from Chardonnay, with the permitted addition of small portions of Pinot Blanc. Well-known producers include Simon Bize, Bouchard Père & Fils, Domaine Chandon de Briailles, Camus-Brochon, Bruno Clair, Domaine Maurice Ecard, Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard, Louis Jadot#Jadot, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Jean Marc Pavelot and Domaine Tollot-Beaut.
