Communal appellation in the Mâconnais district in Burgundy in France, encompasses five communes: Chaintré, Fuissé, Pouilly, Solutré and Vergisson. It should not be confused with the AC Pouilly-Fumé on the Loire. The names of individual vineyards may be appended to the AC name. There are no Premier Cru sites. The appellation applies to varietal white wines made from Chardonnay, they are most usually bottled after first spending a year in barrel. The best-known producers include Château de Beauregard, Château de Fuisse, Clos de Bourg, Cordier, Corsin, Forest, Galley-Golliard, Groupement de Producteurs de Prissé, Guffens-Heynen, Luquet, Merlin, Noblete, Saumaize-Michelin, Soufrandise, Valette and Verget. There are two neighbouring appellations, the wines of which are considered to be of more basic quality. The first of these is Pouilly-Loché with a total vineyard area of 30 hectares, this may also use the name Mâcon-Loché or Pouilly-Vinzelles. The second one is Pouilly-Vinzelles.
