Commune in the Côte de Nuits area in Burgundy in France. As was done by many communes in Burgundy in the 19th century, the name of the best vineyard site has been added to the commune name. The vineyard area totals around 100 hectares. Red wines made from Pinot Noir, with the permitted addition of small portions of Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault are produced under the village appellation of the same name. There is also a Morey-Saint-Denis Blanc white wine made from Chardonnay. The five Grand Cru sites have a total vineyard area of more than 40 hectares. They are Bonnes-Mares (1,5 ha, by far the larger part lies in the commune of Chambolle-Musigny), Clos de la Roche (16 ha), Clos de Tart (7,5 ha), which was established in 1250 by the Cistercian monks, Clos des Lambrays (8,6 ha) and Clos Saint-Denis (6,6 ha). The 20 Premiers Crus cover a total area of 44 hectares. They are : Aux Charmes, Aux Cheseaux, Clos Baulet, Clos des Ormes, Clos Sorbè, Côte Rôtie, La Bussière, La Riotte, Les Blanchards, Les Chaffots, Les Charrières, Les Chenevery, Les Faconnières, Les Genavrières, Les Gruenchers, Les Milandes, Les Ruchots, Les Sorbes, Le Village and Monts Luisants. On the Friday before the „Hospices de Nuits“ wine auction held in the third week of March each year, the producers set up a „Dionysos stand“ in the communal festival hall to present their wines. The objective is to help charities, as is the case with the famous Hospices de Beaune auction. Well-known producers include Amiot, Bichot# (Domaine du Clos Frantin), Charlopin, Chézeaux, Dujac, Jadot, Domaine Leroy, Lignier, Mommessin, Perrot-Minot, Ponsot, Roumir, Rousseau and Serveau.
