The appellation is located in the north-east of the wine-growing region Sud-Ouest in France. This was previously a VDQS, and was classified in 1990. The vineyard area totals 160 hectares. The red wine is usually a blend, made from the indigenous variety Fer Servadou (minimum of 90%), Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Small quantities of a rosé are also produced. Well-known producers include Domaine du Cros and Domaine Laurens.
