Top wines in Domain Malepère AOC
Formerly the VDQS district of Côtes de la Malepère, this was classified as an AC under the shortened name in 2007. It is located in the far west of the Languedoc wine-growing region, neighbouring on the AC Limoux. To the north it is adjoined by the AC Cabardès, which produces fairly similar wines. The vineyards are located in 39 communes in the Département Aude, the total vineyard area is around 620 hectares, primarily on limestone and clay soils on gentles slopes in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The AC applies to both red and rosé wines produces from a blend of Bordeaux and Languedoc varieties. The red wines must consist of Merlot (minimum of 50%), Cabernet Franc and Malbec (minimum of 20%), as well as optionally of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Grenache Noir and Lledoner Pelut. The rosé wines are produced from Cabernet Franc (minimum of 50%), as well as from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Malbec, Grenache and Merlot (minimum of 20%) . Well-known producers includeDomaine des Bruyère, Cave La Malepère, Domaine de Matibat and Cave du Razès and Château de Routier.
