Bordeaux

This small appellation is located in the south of the large Entre-Deux-Mers region (Bordeaux) in France. Documents show that vines were grown here as far back as the 13th century. It is an enclave within the large AC Premiéres Côtes de Bordeaux. The vineyard area of the AC totals 400 hectares, on clay and limestone soils on the right bank of the Garonne river. The AC applies to botrytised white wines made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, these are considered to bet he best sweet wines of the Entre-Deux-Mers region. However, they are no match for the quality of the wines grown in Sauternes on the other bank of the river. Well-known estates include Clos Jean, Château de Ricaud (owbed by Alain Thiénot), Cháteau Loupiac-Gaudiet and Château Rondillon.
