Bordeaux

The appellation has a total vineyard area of around 1.100 hectares, and is located immediately to the north of Pomerol in Bordeaux in France, and is named after the town of Lalande. The wine-growing region has a very long history, it was initiated by the knights of the order of St. John. The vineyards are divided into two sections: the commune of Lalande (60%) has low-lying terraces of sand and gravel, while Néac (40%) is a little more high-lying, it has a gravely plateau. The red wine is made primarily from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, as well as smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, its quality does not quite match up to that of Pomerol. The best-known estates include Château des Annereaux, Château de Bel-Air, Château La Croix de la Chenevelle, Château Grand Ormeau, Château La Croix Saint-André, Château La Fleur de Boüard, Château Haut-Chaigneau, Château Le Sergue and Château Tournefeuille.
