Regional area located in the Pays Nantais region south of the Loire river, close to the Atlantic coast. The vineyard area totals 3.000 hectares. It was classified as VDQS in 1954. The name is derived from the main grape variety, Gros Plant, a synonym for Folle Blanche. The permitted white wines are varietal wines made from Folle Blanche (Gros Plant). It is sometimes produced “sur lie”, i.e. left on the lees, as is the Muscadet, which is also produced here. Well-known producers include Domaine de Beauregard, Château de Fromenteau, Château de la Preuille and Clos Saint-Vincent des Rongères.
