This communal appellation in the Côte Chalonnaise area in Burgundy in France includes the commune of Givry, from which it takes the name, as well as parts of Dracy-le-Fort and Jambles. The wine producers of Givry proudly claim that king Henry IV. (1553–1610) rated their wines better than any other red wine in France, but his frequent visits here were motivated primarily by the fact that his mistress lived here, and were not only due to the quality of the wine. The name of the king is often mentioned on the labels as a recommendation. 90% of the wines produced are red wines with a long maturation potential, made from Pinot Noir, although the addition of portions of Pinot Gris and Pinor Liébault is also permitted, the white wines are made from Chardonnay, with the permitted addition of Pinot Blanc. The are more than 20 Premiers Crus, the most important of these are Berges, Bois Chevaux, Clos Charlé, Clos Saint-Pierre, Petit Marole, Petit Prétants, Vaux and Vignes Rouge.
