Rhône

Appellation in the northern section of the Rhône in France, classified as a Cru site. It is located in the southern part of the section on the left bank of the Rhône river. The vineyard area totals 1.300 hectares, spread over 11 communes in the département Drôme. The wines are similar to those produced in the Hermitage appellation, which borders this AC to the north, but they are considered to be lighter and less complex. The red wines are made from Syrah, with a maximum of 15% of Marsanne or Roussane, the white wines are made from Marsanne and Roussanne. The locally famous bandit Mandrin was a well-known fan of these wines. Well-known producers include Albert Belle, Chapoutier, Bernard Chave, Domaine du Colombier, Château de Curson, Desmeure, Domaine des Entrefaux, Fayolle, Alain Graillot, Jaboulet-Aîné and Domaine du Pavillon-Mercurol.
