The regional appellation applies to crémant wines (sparling wines made in accordance with the méthode champenoise) in the Bordeaux wine-growing region in France. The appellation was introduced in 1990, and served to replace the previous AC Bordeaux Mousseux, which was still permissible until 1995. The following varieties are permitted for the white wine: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmenère, Colombard, Malbec, Merlot, Muscadelle, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Ugni Blanc. Varieties permitted for the rosé are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmenère, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Various versions from dry to sweet are produced.
