The appellation is named after the Mont Ventoux mountain (1912 metres), and is located in the southern section of the Rhône wine-growing region in France. The vineyard area totals just on 7.500 hectares in 51 communes on the left bank of the Rhône river in the département Vaucluse, between Vaison-la-Romaine in the north and Apt in the south. The red wine is a blend made from Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsaut and Mourvèdre, a maximum of 30% Carignan, as well as a total maximum of 20% of Picpoul Noir, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc and Rousssane. Regulations for the rosé are similar. The white wine contains Clairette and Bourboulenc, as well as a total maximum of 30% of Grenache Blanc and Roussanne. Well-known producers include Domaine des Anges, CV des Coteaux du Mont Ventoux, Château La Croix des Pins, Domaines de Fenouillet, Domaine de Fondrèche, Domaine Font-Sane, Jaboulet-Aîné, Domaine le Murmurium, Château Pesquié, Domaine de la Pigeade, Domaine Saint-Croix, Domaine Saint-Sauveur, Château Valcombe and Domaine de la Verrière.
