  Cotes du Luberon AOC

Appellation in the southern section of the Rhône wine-growing region in France. The area is located in the extreme south of the region, and is named after the Lubéron mountains; it was classified in 1988. Recognition of this status can be mainly ascribed to the efforts of millionaire Jean-Louis Chancel, who set a high standard of quality with the wines of his 125-hectare estate Château Val-Joanis. The vineyard area totals more than 4.000 hectares in 36 communes. The red wine must contain a minimum of 60% Syrah and Grenache (of which a minimum of 10% Syrah), a maximum of 20% each of 20% Mourvèdre, Cinsaut and Carignan, as well as 10% (individually or in total) of Counoise, Pinot Noir, Gamay and Picpoul. The regulations for rosé are similar. The white wine is a blend made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Vermentino, Ugni Blanc (maximum of 50%), as well as a maximum of 20% Roussanne and/or Marsanne. Well-known producers include Cave de Bonnieux, Château de la Canorgue, Domaine de la Citadelle, Château de l´Isolette, Château Val-Joanis and La Vieille Ferme.
