This small appellation surrounds the town of Boën-sur-Lignon on the upper Loire in central France. It was classified as a VDQS region in 1955, and elevated to AC status in 2001. The vineyard area totals 200 hectares in 21 communes. The dry red and rosé wines are pure varietal Gamay wines (similar to those of Beaujolais).
