Appellation in the southern section of the Rhône wine-growing region in France, located across the river from the AC Côtes du Vivarais. It was classified as VDQS in 1964, and as AC in 1973. The vineyard area totals 2.000 hectares in 22 communes stretch along the left bank of the Rhône river from La Baume-de-Transit to Les Granges-Gontardes in the département Vaucluse. Red wines and rosés are blends made from Grenache Noir, Cinsaut, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Picpoul Noir, a maximum of 20% Carignan, as well as a maximum total of 20% of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Ugni Blanc. The white wine is made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Picpoul and Bourboulenc, as well as a maximum total of 20% of Ugni Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier. Well-known producers include Chapoutier, Château la Décelle, Domaine de d´Elyssas, Domaine de Grangeneuve, Domaine Pierre Labeye, Domaine de Montine and Domaine Saint-Luc.
