This region is named after the commune of Ancenis, it has a total vineyard area of 130 hectares. It is located in the east of the Pays Nantais area, directly on the upper Loire river, between the cities of Angers and Nantes. It was classified as VDQS in 1954. Four varietal wines are produced, which must state the variety on the label. The rosé and red wines make up 80% of production, and are blends made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Gamay, as well as a maximum of 5% of Gamay de Chaudenay and Gamay de Buze. The white wines are made from Pineau de la Loire (Chenin Blanc) and Malvoisie (also known as Pinot Beurot = Pinot Gris). Well-known producers include Jacques Guindon, Domaine des Galloires and Domaine des Génaudières.
