This appellation is located at the centre of the Provence wine-growing region in France, it is an enclave within the AC Côtes de Provence. It was classified in 1993. The vineyard area totals 1750 hectares in 28 communes in the département Var. At its centre lies the city of Brignoles, formerly the summer residence of the dukes of Provence. Two thirds of the wine produced is red, this is a blend made from a minimum of 80% of Mourvèdre, Syrah and Grenache, as well as from a maximum of 20% of Cinsaut, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. The rosé contains a minimum of 70% Mourvèdre, Syrah and Grenache Noir (the last-named msut make up a minimum of 40%), as well as a maximum of 30% of Cinsaut, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tibouren. The white wine is a blend made from a minimum of 30% of Vermentino, a maximum of 30% of Sémillon, a maximum of 25% of Ugni Blanc, as well as from Clairette and Grenache Blanc. Well-known producers include Domaine de Chaberts, Domaine du Deffends, Château la Galisse, Château Margillerie, Château Real Martin, Château Routas, Domaine de St-Jean, Château Thuerry and Doimaine de Valcolombe.
