Top wines in Domain Chenas AOC
The smallest of the ten Cru sites in Beaujolais, with only 280 hectares, it is named after the commune of the same name. The vineyards are located on the slopes of two hills, the La Cabane des Chasseurs and Pic de Rémont. It is reputed that wines from here were served at the court of king Louis XIII. (1601-1643). The wines are full-bodied and spicy, and are at their peak around 4 to 6 years after the vintage. Together with the wines of the Crus Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent they are considered to be the best in Beaujolais (Vins de garde). Well-known producers include Jean Benon, Château de Chénas, Domaine des Ducs, Domäne Champagnon, Hubert Lapierre, Henri Lespinasse, Georges Trichard and Jacques Trichard.
