Côtes du Vivarais AOC

The appellation is located in the southern section of the Rhône, across the river from the AC Coteaux du Tricastin. This was previously a VDQS region, and was only classified as an AC in 1999. The vineyard area totals around 650 hectares. The communes of Orgnac (famous for its karst caves), Saint-Remèze and Saint-Montan are permitted to add their names to that of the appellation. The red wine is a blend made from a minimum of 90% Grenache Noir and Syrah (minimum of 30% of Grenache Noir, minimum of 40% of Syrah) and Cinsaut. The rosé must contain at least two of the three varieties Syrah, Grenache and Cinsaut, of which each may have a maximum share of 80%. The white wine must contain at least two of the three varieties Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Marsanne, of which each may have a maximum share of 75%.
