A large percentage of the wines produced in the Bordeaux wine-growing region in France is marketed under the comprehensive appellation designation „Bordeaux” (10 % vol alcohol content for red wines, 10,5% vol for white wines) or „Bordeaux-Supérieur” (higher minimum alcohol content of 10,5% vol for red wines and 11,5% vol for white wines). This applies to all wines that are grown in the official Bordeaux region, but do not have a defined commune or zone of origin. They must comply with all AC rules regarding grape varieties, yields, methods of vinification etc. as demanded for the area of origin, and are also controlled for compliance.
