Provence

The appellation is located in the west of the wine-growing region of Provence in France. It forms a small enclave within the AC Coteaux d´Aix-en-Provence, the name under which these wines were produced prior to classification in 1995. They can be regarded as a sort of Grand Cru of this original AC, with more strict regulations. The vineyards cover a total area of around 300 hectares, spread over six communes stretched along the picturesque Alpilles hills south of Avignon. The red wine is a blend made from Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre und Syrah, as well as from a maximum of 40% of Cinsaut, Counoise, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. The rosé is made from Cinsaut, Grenache Noir and Syrah, as well as from a maximum of 40% of Counoise, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvedre. Well-known producers include Mas de la Dame, Mas de Gourgonnier, Domaine Olivier d´Auge, Domaine de Trévallon and Domaine de la Vallongue.
