This appellation is named after the town of the same name, and is located in the Côte de Beaune section of the Côte d´Or in Burgundy in France, neighbouring the communes of Meursault and Monthélie. The vineyard area totals 135 hectares, and includes sections of the communes of Petit Auxey and Melin. Two thirds of production is of red wines (from Pinot Noir with some portions of Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault) and one third white wines (from Chardonnay with portions of Pinot Blanc). There are nine Premiers Crus with a vineyard area of 32 hectares, the most important ones are Bréterins, Climat de Val, Duresses, Écusseaux and Reugne. An alternative appellation used exclusively for red wines is Auxey-Duresses-Côte de Beaune.
