| Hi John, hi Sigi and hi others reading and writing on the subject of lighter, sweeter wines. This subject seems to have shifted to Mosel wines (as opposed to Nyetimber, an English sparkling wine about which I gave info about the vineyard in West Sussex, England). However to return to the Mosel. You're right Sigi, the Weingut with the name Haart is towards the end of the Goldtröpfen site and belongs to Reinhart Haart, an old winery founded some time ago and currently run by Herr Theo Haart. (Don't confuse it with Johannes Haart, another old winery originating from the same family and also in Piesport). Anyone commenting on Reinhart Haart's quality wines is right - he's one of the few growers who limits grape output which, in simple language, means it is far easier to produce a GOOD wine. (I understand he produces about 2,500 bottles per acre from Riesling whereas far too many growers would go for up to double that amount, repeat double that amount. If you're interested in Reinhart Haart he has a website at www.haart.de (Can I stress I have NO contact with him). However the current owner, Theo Haart is a bit naughty. His website implies he owns the Piesporter Goldtröpfen vineyard (see Classified Sites on his website) - HE DOES NOT. Goldtröpchen, one of several sites in Piesport which I have previously listed, is 82.3 hectacres in size. (An hectacre is about 2½ acres). Theo Haart works 13 hectacres. The rest of the site is work by other growers and there are at least 5 to my knowlege which is not encyclopaedic. So let's hope that is clear. Now we come on to wine reviews, etc. >From what I have explained you might now begin to realize that 99% of the wine reviews you read ARE TOTAL BUNKUM AND RUBBISH. There is absolutely no point at all for a wine reviewer to write in glowing terms about this or that's 1988 So-and-So Bla Bla Riesling (or whatever) UNLESS the reviewer can also say something knowledgable about the vineyard - how big it is, how many people work it and something about their output! And that's what they can't do because they have no knowledge of the local language, can't converse (except in English) and can't read things like local wine organization literature. Sorry but that's the bitter, bitter truth!
