Subject: Corks |
| This is my first communication to the group. Let me say I have appreciated the information and comments that wein-plus members have offered each other. Once a cork tree is stripped, it takes a long time for it to replenish itself. Cork trees don't grow everywhere and cork is in short supply. What to do? On a winery tour this past weekend, I learned that the corks for some of Napa Valley's méthode champenoise sparking wines are made partly from recycled cork. Here in San Francisco, our recycling firm collects corks (along with recyclable metal and paper) and sends them back to the wineries.
