| Hello Tony, you wrote: > Please could you point out some > of your favourites, particularly if they have web sites, I > could then look to buy with confidence in the Boppard/Oberwessel area I moved to the Mittelrhein area a couple of months ago, and have naturally taken an interest in the local wines. In Spay, there are two very good producers, both with vineyard holdings in the Bopparder Hamm: Florian Weingart www.weingut-weingart.de Matthias Müller no homepage Other very reliable producers August Perll in Boppard www.perll.de Toni Jost in Bacharach no homepage Didinger in Osterspai www.weingut-didinger.de Ratzenberger in Bacharach www.weingut-ratzenberger.de Of course there are more, but these certainly stick out as being the best in the region. Where a producer has no homepage, you should still be able to find some information on them in the German wine guide on Wein-Plus. Also, there is now an English-language version of the print guide Gault-Millau (ISBN 3-88472-675-7). This area, of course, is almost totally dedicated to Riesling, with steep slopes and slate soils very similar to the northern Mosel. Halbtrocken wines abound, and the prices are very moderate indeed. Sort of a Riesling lover's paradise. If you are in the area, let me know, and we can share some interesting wines.
