Subject: Need Info About This Wine

Hi guys
Thanks for your time and replies to "German Classification". I guess
I've learnt enough of the very basic to buy what I like to drink.
I found this kabinett [Gimmeldinger Meerspinne halb-trocken 2004]
www.thewinecompany.com.sg/ in our local store. For US$17, the
price seems reasonable. Much lower than those I have been buying.
However, I need some tasting notes and opinions. It doesn't seem to
be from a top producer but could it be one of those cheap and
not-too-bad Rieslings?
My references:
- Donnhoff Kabinett Fruity 2003 (US$31) best I’ve tasted.
- Bishop Mosel off-dry in a translucent Bordeaux bottle (US$11),
perhaps the dullest so far for my standard.
If I’ve learnt something about German Riesling, I have learnt that a
good wine is not about style (dry or sweet) but good quality and
balance correct me if I am wrong. Depending on mood and type of
food, I drink both dry and fruity. I strongly feel that if Germany
went completely for the dry style it would be the greatest mistake.
I'd sampled an Aussie fruity Riesling lately, it couldn't even come
close to the Donnhoff. The upfront apricot, peach and slate are
missing and the finish was short. On the other hand, most of their
very dry ones are too tart and powerful for me.
Ray
