Werner:
I should have remembered the location. I lived in Babenhausen (Kreis Dieburg) then in Stuttgart for several years. Have traveled the Bergstrasse many times. It has been many years since I was there (1991).

Lots of good wines along the Bergstrasse. Mostly local as I remember.

Hi Tom:
Heppenheim is located on the right river bank of the Rhine about half the way between Darmstadt and Heidelberg. The area is called "Bergstrasse", a very warm and sunny region which is famous for its early springtime compared to most other aereas in Germany. Of course, we also grow wine here, mostly rieslings and pinot gris. The soil is very rich in minerals due to the granit rocks underneath. The wines have greatly improved within the last 10 years; they are comparable in character to the Rheingau-wines.
Cheers, Werner.
