The estate is located in the commune of Fels am Wagram (Wagram area) in the Wagram wine-growing region in Lower Austria. A wooden tree press dated 1848 as well as the 200-year-old wine cellar bear testimony to the long tradition of this estate. The estate has been operating under its current name of Wimmer-Czerny since the early 1960’s, this reflects the history of the past four generations here. The estate has been run by Ing. Johann Czerny since 1993. The vineyards were completely revamped from 1985 on, and the number of varieties planted was reduced. Organic vineyard practices are implemented, this includes organic fertilising (with compost and grape husks), as well as the use of pheromone traps and beneficial insects, and no use at all of insecticides and herbicides. The estate has been officially inspected by the “Erde&Saat” organic farming organisation since 2003. The vineyard area totals 12 hectares. 85% of this area is planted with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Roter Veltliner and Traminer, the remainder is planted with Zweigelt. The premium wines include, for example, the Grüner Veltliner Weelfel, Grüner Veltliner Felser Berg, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc) Scheiben and Traminer Mitterweg. Annual production is around 60.000 bottles of wine. Spirits are also produced. The estate is a member of the Weingüter Wagram association.

The vintage 2006

The Wimmer-Czerny estate has put in an excellent performance in 2006. Practically all the wines are of an excellent standard, all of them are refreshing with mineral notes. Even a class above this is the Weelfel Alte Reben, from old vines, characterised by its substance and depth, and its persistent fruit. This estate is a hot candidate for a higher ranking in this guide. Our compliments, keep it up!
