The estate is located in Stammersdorf, a section of the 21st precinct Floridsdorf, in the north-west of Vienna, the capital of Austria. The estate is around a hundred years old, and was run purely as a “Huerigen” wine bar until the 1980’s, until Ing. Fritz Wieninger jun. Took charge of wine production. The vineyard area totals 25 hectares, located on the slopes of the Bisamberg mountain, with south- and south-west facing slopes in the Breiten, Gabrissen, Herrenholz, Jungenberg, Rothen and Wiesthalen. Sites. Six hectares have been leased in the famous Nussberg site on the other bank of the Danube river. Two thirds of the area is planted with the white varieties Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gelber Muskateller, Traminer as well as the typical Viennese vineyard blend, the remaining one third is planted with the red varieties Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Depending on the varieties, the white grapes are destemmed and then gently pressed, or undergo whole bunch pressing. The must is then fermented in either temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks or in oak barrels of various sizes; the Chardonnay Grand Select is fermented in barriques of French oak. The red wines are either fermented in the classical style on the skins in closed tanks, or as in the case of the Pinot Noir in open oak vats. The wines undergo malo-lactic fermentation, and are matured exclusively in barriques. The wines of the „Grand Selects“ range are not filtered before bottling.
The premium wines include the „Chardonnay Grand Select“ from the Breiten site, the vines are more than 30 years old, matured in barriques for 22 months, the „Grüner Veltliner Nussberg“ from 40-year-old vines, „Nussberg Alte Reben“ (vineyard blend of at least nine varieties), „Danubis Grand Select“ (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zweigelt), „Rosé de Pinot“, „Nussberg Essenz“ (Trockenbeerenauslese from vineyard blend), as well as the „Wiener Trilogie“ (Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot). The wines have achieved top ratings at both the national and international level since the early 1990’s. Annual production is around 200.000 bottles of wine. Around a third of this is exported, with Germany and the USA being the two most important markets.

The wines Fritz Wieninger has presented show off his talent impressively. Even the basic wines have a touch of class, and the wines we really liked this year were the Veltliners. The Nussberg is a wonderful wine at an incredibly low price, the Kaasgraben leaves no wishes unfulfilled. Our compliments!
