The „Weingut Köllan - Familie Georg Schmelzer” estate is located in the commune of Gols (Heideweg 3) in the Neusiedlersee wine-growing region in Burgenland in Asutria. The first wine producer in the family was Georg I, who had a mixed operation with general farming, cattle and some vineyards. The estate was built on the Kellern vineyard site outside the town in 1988. In the course of time, the estate has become increasingly specialised on viticulture, and cattle farming has been abandoned. Following the death of his father Georg II. in 1968, his son Georg III. Together with his mother took over the business. In the meantime, Georg IV. is now already the fourth generation in the family line to be working in the business. The vineyard area totals ten hectares. 60% of this area is planted with the red varieties Zweigelt and Cabernet Sauvignon, the remaining 40% is planted with thewhite varieties Sämling 88, Malvasier (Frühroter Veltliner), Welschriesling, Neuburger and Grüner Veltliner. The premium wines include, for example, the red blend „Fürstliches Prädium” (Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon), „Cabernet Sauvignon”, „Zweigelt Reserve Riedencuvée” and „Grüner Veltliner Reitäcker”. Sweet botrytis dessert wines such as Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein are also produced. Annual production is around 40.000 bottles of wine.

Unfortunately, no wines have been submitted for tasting for several years now, so that we are unable to form a meaningful opinion on the current performance of this producer. For this reason, we see no option but to suspend the classification until further notice.

Unfortunately, no current wines have beedn submitted for tasting for quite some time, we have therefore had to revert to a provisional classification for the time being.
