The estate is located in Döbling, the 19th precinct of Vienna, in the famous suburb of Grinzing. The family has been making wine since the 16th century. Father Ferdinand Hengl is one of the original characters of Viennese wine, the estate has been run by his son Ing. Matthias Hengl since 2005. The business includes a wine bar that is also a member of the „Chaine des Roitisseurs”. The vineyard area totals 13 hectares in the Hungerberg, Purgstall, Reisenberg, Schenkenberg and Schlegl sites, some of which are subsidiary sites of the famous Nussberg site (all located in the 19th precinct). 75% of the area is planted with white varieties: Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and a vineyard blend mixture, the remainder is planted with the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Zweigelt and Pinot Noir. The principles of sustainable viticulture are implemented. The premium wines include, for example, the Riesling Nussberg, the red blend Charlotte (Cabernet Sauvignon and Zweigelt), Chardonnay Barrique Schlegel and Pinot Blanc Hungerberg. Annual production is around 15.000 bottles of wine. The estate is a member of the Vienna Classic wine-growers association.

The vintage 2009

Note: the estate has decided not to submit any wines of the 2009 vintage.

The vintage 2008

Unfortunately, no wines have been submitted for several years now, so that we are unable to form a meaningful opinion on the current performance of this producer. For this reason, we see no option but to suspend the classification until further notice.
