The „Mehofer - Neudeggerhof” estate is located in the commune of Neudegg in the Wagram wine-growing region in Lower Austria. The family owning the estate is first mentioned in 1709, and currently the tenth generation of the family is at the helm. A wine bar is attached. The estate is currently run by Karl and Elisabeth Mehofer. Their son Stephan is responsible for making the wines. Karl Neudegger is regarded as a pioneer and trailblazer in organic wine production. The estate is run along strict organic lines, including the use of organic fertilisers and compost, encouraging useful insects, integrated plant protection and use of pheromone traps to eliminate pests. The vineyard area totals 17 hectares, with holdings in top sites such as Riesmein, Spielberg and Wadenthal. 75% of the area is planted with the white grape varieties Grüner Veltliner, Roter Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Muskateller, Traminer, Neuburger, Sauvignon Blanc and Frühroter Veltliner, the remaining 25% is planted with the red varieties Zweigelt, Blauer Portugieser, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Blauburger.
