The estate is located within the city boundaries of Krems in the Kremstal wine-growing region in Lower Austria. It was founded in the 19th century by the grandfather of the current owner. A wine bar is also provided. There has been significant expansion in the past 15 years, the vineyard area has grown from 15 hectares originally to 80 hectares today. This has provided sufficient own grapes to replace the previous practice of buying in grapes and wine from other wine-growing regions. At the same time there has been a significant change in the varieties planted. In 2004 the estate was awarded the „Hans Czettel“ prize for environmental protection for an exemplary terraced Riesling vineyard in the Faucha site, which is owned by 19 wine producers. The estate’s vineyards include holdings in the Faucha, Frechau, Kögl, Kraxen, Kremsleithen, Pfaffenberg, Sandgrube, Spiegel, Thalland, Wachtberg and Weinzierlberg sites. 70% of the area is planted with the main variety Grüner Veltliner, as well as with Riesling (10%), Müller-Thurgau (7%), Neuburger, Chardonnay, Gelber Muskateller, Sauvignon Blanc and Zweigelt bestockt. Grapes are bought in from contract growers in the Schrattenberg area in the Neusiedlersee-Hügelland wine-growing region in Burgenland, and red wines are made from these. The wines are matured wither in the vaulted cellars dating back to the 13th and 14th century, or in the modern stainless steel tank cellar. Around 90% of the vineyard-specific wines use the glass Vinolok closure. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced. Annual production is around a million bottles of wine, and 85% of this is supplied to the restaurant trade.
