Lower Austria/Niederösterreich
CarnuntumThe estate is located in the commune of Göttlesbrunn in the Carnuntum wine-growing region in Lower Austria. Walter Glatzer is one of the rising stars, and one of the co-founders of the so-called „red wine miracle” in this region. The vineyard area totals 20 hectares, including holdings in the Altenberg site. 85% of the area is planted with red varieties: Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Laurent and Merlot, the remainder is planted with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc. Grapes are bought in from contract growers working an additional 10 hectares. The premium wines include the „Dornenvogel” brand, created in 1987 (a red wine made from Zweigelt, a white wine made from Grüner Veltliner), „Rubin Carnuntum” (Zweigelt), Sauvignon Blanc Altenberg, as well as the red blend„Gotinsprun” (consisting of the five red varieties, and named after the historic name for Göttlesbrunn). Annual production is around 80.000 bottles.
