  Wagram (former Donauland)

This wine-growing region in Austria is one of eight such regions in the federal state of Lower Austria (Niederösterreich). It was known as Donauland from 1995 to 2007, but this name never really became popular, and it has been known as Wagram since 2007.

The total vineyard area is 2.732 hectares, and there are 1.710 growers and producers. In 1993, the districts of Donauland and Carnuntum, which had up to then been regarded as a single wine-growing region, were separated and are both now independent regions. In 1995, the Traisental district was separated from the Donauland growing region, and is now also a region in its own right. Donauland consists of two separate districts, or regional sites. To the north and stretched out along the Danube river is the larger district of Wagram, which lies between the wine-growing region of Kamptal in the west and Vienna in the east. The best-known wine-producing communes are Fels am Wagram, with the Hammergraben, Mitterweg and Schafberg vineyard sites; Gösing with the Fumberg, Mittersteig and Weelfel sites; Grafenwörth; Feuersbrunn with the Am Berg, Kellerweingarten, Nußberg and Rosenberg sites; Jettsdorf; St. Johann; Seebarn; Wagram; Großriedenthal with the Alter Weingarten, Eisenhut and Goldberg sites; Oberstockstall; as well as Kirchberg am Wagram with the Hundsberg and Steinberg sites. To the east of „Wagram” and south of the Danube is the second district, Klosterneuburg. Klosterneuburg includes the communes of Höflein, Kierling, Kritzendorf, Maria Gugging, Weidling and Weidlingbach. Well-known vineyard sites include the Franzhauser, Weidling, Wieden and Ziegelgrub sites. The climate is characterised by the influences of the Danube, by the Pannonian area close by, and by the protection afforded by the Manhartsberg mountain from cold winds coming from the north.

Two highly-regarded producers associations in the growing region are Wagramer Selektion and Weingüter Wagram. The best-known producers include, for example, Arkadenhof Hausdorf, Bauer Anton, Bauer Josef, Bauer Naturnaher Weinbau, Blauensteiner Leopold, Bründy, Diwald Hans, Ehmoser, Ernst Harald, Fritsch Karl, Fritz Josef, Gerhold Rainer, Grill, Güntschl, Kolkmann, Leth, Mayer Franz Anton, Mehofer, Ott Bernhard, Polsterer, Reinberger, Salomon Fritz, Schloss Fels, Schneider Franz, Schuster Karl, Söllner, Stift Klosterneuburg, Wimmer-Czerny, Wöber Josef and Zimmermann Rudolf.
