The estate is located in the commune of Hohenwarth in the south-west of the Weinviertel wine-growing region in Lower Austria. Current owners Petra and Leopold Hofbauer-Schmidt are the sixth generation of the family to be in charge here. Some guest rooms are also provided. The vineyard area totals 12 hectares, with holdings in the following sites: Berg, Böndl, Hintaus, Hochstraß, Kellerberg, Kögl, Lehen, Mühlweg, Rennweg, Satzgraben and Waidenthal. Grape varieties planted include the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Roter Veltliner, Riesling and Grüner Sylvaner, as well as the red varieties Zweigelt and Blauburger. Organic wine-growing methods are strictly implemented, including the use of specific insects in combating harmful parasites. No work is done in the soil from the end of October to the beginning of June, in order not to disturb the natural flora and fauna in the vineyards, and in order to prevent topsoil being displaced, and erosion taking place. All grapes are picked by hand. The press house was built on three levels to utilise gravity feed in the cellar. The short distances as well as fast, hygienic procedures ensure the mash and musts do not require any addition of sulphur. Processing and maturation of the wines seek to maintain the fine varietal, vintage and terroir differences. The premium wines include the white wines Weinviertel DAC Ried Hochstraß (Grüner Veltliner), Grüner Veltliner Alte Reben, Roter Veltliner Alte Rebe, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc) Ried Satzgraben and Riesling Alte Reben, as well as the red blends „Imposant Hohenwarther Freiheit” and „Reserve” (both made from Blauburger and Zweigelt). Loyal customers include many top-class restaurants, vinotheques as well as many private customers in both Austria and Germany. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines as well as high-quality spirits are also produced. Events and presentations involving food, wine and music are held regularly on the estate, with the nett profit of culinary events being donated to charitable causes such as "Light into dark".
