The estate is located in the commune of Gedersdorf (Brunn im Felde suburb) to the East of Krems in the Kremstal wine-growing region in Lower Austria. The estate was mentioned as a “picking farm” (Admont abbey) as far back as the 12th century. The family that currently owns the estate is first mentioned in a document dated around 1365. Josef Mantler (1910-1987) paid particular attention to the selection and preservation of the Roter Veltliner variety. Today, the estate is run by his son Josef and his wife Margit. The vineyard area totals 13 hectares, with holdings in the following sites: Reisenthal, Spiegel, Steingraben, Tiefenthal, Vordernberg, Weitgasse, Wieland and Zehetnerin. They are planted with the following white varieties: Grüner Veltliner (47 %), Roter Veltliner (12%), Riesling (23%), Chardonnay, Neuburger and Gelber Muskateller, as well as with the red variety Merlot. Fermentation usually takes places in stainless steel tanks with moderate temperature control, in order to preserve the varietal character and the fruit. The premium wines include, for example, the Grüner Veltliner Spiegel, Roter Veltliner Reisenthal, Riesling Wieland, Riesling Steingraben and Chardonnay Erste Lage. Spirits (apricot, Veltliner brandy) are also produced. The estate is a member of the Traditionsweingüter Österreich association. In addition, a mixed farming operation with 68 hectares of fields and pasture is also operated along organic-biological principles.
The vintage 2007
The quality this year is a little more variable than we have become used to here, but practically all the wines are still of a very good or even excelent standard. Among the top wines, too, the standard o the previous vintage is not quite achieved, nevertheless there a several really excellent wines of the 2007 vintage in Sepp Mantler's range. Among these is one of the very few really outstanding sweet Veltliner wines, as well as a lovely Neuburger and a Riesling Reserve that looks as though it will develop very nicely. The Roter Veltliner is a speciality of the house, this already shows some class now, and we forecast a good maturation potential. We are not quite that certain when it comes to the Veltliner Reserve, which at this stage is rather rough and not at all approachable.

Gelber Muskateller, White wine, quality wine, dry, Kremstal
This really was Sepp Mantler's year. The wines of the previous vintage were already impressive, full-bodied and at the same time slightly playful, and this year one can rightfully speak of an impressive demonstration of loess soils. Full-bodied, voluminous wines, with unmistakeable origin and varietal characteristics, with clear mineral notes, that is the Mantlerhof estate showing off its best characteristics. You will be able to enjoy the wines for quite some time to come, the wines of this estate are known for their long maturation potential. With wines of such a high level this estate is currently one of the great producers in Austria.
