Lower Austria/Niederösterreich
Wagram (former Donauland)The estate owned by Paula and Hans Diwald is located in the commune of Großriedenthal in the Wagram wine-growing region in Lower Austria. The old farm building has roots going back to the 13th century. Hans Diwald has been practising organic wine-growing methods since the early 1980s, the estate is thus one of the pioneers in Austria in this regard. It is a member of the „Weingüter Bioveritas” and „Club Europäischer Bioweingüter” organic growing associations. The vineyard area totals ten hectares in the Diebsnest, Eisenhut, Fuchsentanz, Goldberg, Hinter der Au and Spielberg vineyard sites. The area is planted with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner (40%), Frühroter Veltliner, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Blanc, as well as the red varieties Zweigelt, Blauer Portugieser, Blauburger, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. The premium wines include, for example, the Grüner Veltliner Goldberg, Frühroter Veltliner Diebsnest and Riesling Eisenhut. The estate also markets organic wines from France, Spain and Italy (Tuscany).
